12/5/2024 Indonesia (International Christian Concern) — The church is growing rapidly in the world’s largest Muslim country.
The latest evidence of this was made known during the General Assembly of the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) in November. The PGI has added seven new synods, bringing its total number of synods to 104.
The new synods include Banua Keriso Nias Protestant Synod (BKPN), Indonesian Bible Christian Fellowship Church Synod (GPKAI), Indonesian God-Caring Church Synod (GAPI), KIBAID Church Synod, Beth-el Tabernacle Church Synod (GBT), Christ Fellowship Church Synod (GPSK), and Jesus Christ the Lord Church Synod (GYKT).
“PGI has verified the seven synods of this church,” said Rev. Jacklevyn Fritz Manuputty, PGI secretary general. “All have met the criteria, such as having a congregation of at least 10,000, having complete administration as a church, and being registered with the Directorate General of Christian Community Guidance.”
The growth of the church in Indonesia has led to increased persecution. Some Muslims are even raising awareness of the spread of Christianity. There have also been positive developments, as it recently became easier for new churches to obtain building permits.
