10/9/2024 Malaysia (International Christian Concern) — The Malaysian High Court has ordered controversial Chinese Muslim preacher Firdaus Wong Wai Hun to remove a TikTok video in which he tells minors, including Christian youth, to convert to Islam without the knowledge or consent of their parents.
The original video appeared on social media in June. Several non-Muslim parents who were concerned about Wong’s deceptive push for youth to convert to Islam secretly subsequently sued him.
Following the posting of the video, the Global Human Rights Federation (GHRF), a Malaysian organization, publicly criticized Wong for the video’s content.
The GHRF claims that Firdaus Wong Wai Hun’s social media posts are creating fear for Christians and other non-Muslims because he is recommending that non-Muslim children and teenagers should be welcomed to Islam, but their conversion should not be public or registered with authorities.
Wong has a significant social media presence, with more than 350,000 followers on Instagram and more than 100,000 on TikTok. A court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 17.
The lawsuit against Wong occurs as Islam is increasingly influencing Malaysian society, largely through the Shariah Index, introduced in 2015. This index evaluates the country’s adherence to Islamic principles across various sectors, including the economy, education, and social policies.
About 64% of Malaysia’s population adheres to Islam, and about 10% are Christians. International Christian Concern (ICC) staff have been concerned for a long time about the religious conversion tactics and strategies used against Christians in Malaysia.
