Chinese Christian Blogger Heads to Trial Again

3/26/2025 China (International Christian Concern) — Advocacy groups have reported that Christian blogger and activist Zhang Zhan is facing trial again, this time scheduled for the People’s Court of Pudong (Shanghai) for the frivolous charge of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble” under Article 293 of China’s Penal Code.

Sources have informed these advocacy groups that officials are seeking a sentence of four to five years for Zhang. This comes after she was released in May 2024 after serving four years for the same charge. Upon her release, Zhang supported another activist in Gansu Province. Shanghai Police then traveled nearly 900 miles to arrest her.

She was charged in November 2024 and is being detained in a Shanghai prison, where she is undertaking hunger strikes to protest the unfair treatment she is enduring.
